Devon Week Camp 2007
Saturday 4th - 11th August 2007
Saltney Ferry Scouts and Explorers held there annual week camp in Devon, in a small village called Chawleigh. The group would like to pass on extreme thanks to Monty James and his family for allowing this to happen. The group previously visited the area in 1987, and twenty years later we decide to visit again.
The camp was attended by 20 people, and overall the camp was a very big success. Our week camp is a true "back to basics" encounter, how a Scout camp should be. The site had a wonderful stream, plenty of wood, water supply, flat area of field, and most of all a VERY kind farmer.
During the week a number of activities were organised, and plenty of fun was had in the stream. The Explorers went on an expedition on the North Coast for two days, only later to find out they had spent it sun bathing! The Scouts hiked through mid Devon. Explorers held a challenge day for the Scouts. We built a rope crossing, and even swam in the sea at Croyde. Visited Ilfracombe and Dawlish, and had a brilliant time at Diggerland and Babbacombe Model Village. Diggerland was great fun, with a comment from one Explorer saying "it was the best place she had ever been!" The weather was wonderful, amazing when you consider the days before and after it. We also had our usual waterslide, campfires, and ball games.
The week camp allows our Scouts and Explorers to cook on wood fires. Just as well because quite honestly the gas ones were useless. At the end of the camp we hold a special campfire, and award trophies. This year Scout of the Camp went to Mat, and Explorer of the Camp went to Amy.
Thanks to all those who went on this years camp, it was lovely to return to such a special place!
Pictures are found below:
Visiting the Model Village in Babbacombe.
The most amazing place, Diggerland.
Having fun on the water slide.
One of the many Explorer challenges. Superb effort by all the Explorers with these, well done!
Hiking through mid Devon.
Even a hair dresser and weatherman (one of his more mad moments!) came to our camp.
Using our rope bridge.
Swimming in the stream on site. The water was cold to say the least, but it was deep and plenty of fun.
Trying to make fire, with our very own Bow Drill. At least smoke was achieved!
Swimming at Croyde Beach. What a very nice place that is? Pity about the roads though.
Playing with the slightly smaller, big ball.
And finally......
Well you did not think you would get away with it, did you!!!!!
Our very own drag queens!
And there I was thinking we only had three female Explorers on camp.
